This NEVER would have happened had those 4 off-duty unidentified officers not confronted the Llamas' at their home.

They NEVER should have been there. 8-)

Everything stemmed from the actions of the off-duty officers.

In some of the officers defense, there was one officer who went to the situation and when he did he drew the others in to assist him in getting out.
Right or wrong, a friend of mine will not get his ass kicked while I walk away from him.......no friggin' way !! I may kick his butt afterward for putting me in that situation with his stupidity, but that's between me and him.....later.

So perhaps it is the first officer to arrive on the Llamas property who may face the harshest punishment?

I really feel sorry for you Greggzee. I'm sure you must have known the officers involved, and as a friend naturally would like to defend them and the department in this incident. That is completely understandable. ;)

I have looked at this incident in several ways, and it would seem to me had it occurred between private citizens some criminal charges would have been filed. Had you responded to a shooting call and found neighbors fighting and two people shot, I'm pretty sure an arrest would have been made. It's not exactly self defense when you loose a fight and pull a gun. Surely in your career you encountered someone who had there ass kicked, after they thought they were the bad ass and started the brawl.

I realize that's a pretty general version of an incident. :|

So far the off-duty officers have defended themselves against the criminal charges, but I'm not sure they will win the civil lawsuits.

It doesn't sound like the Chief is too happy with their actions either, so I would assume their careers are in jeapordy if not over.

Here is some punishment to the other extreme. Still I bet she doesn't do it again!

Females don't share equal rights under Muslim law or nations.

Look at how harst they were treated by the Tailban.

As for the topic at hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the City and officers are hit with a civil lawsuit from the Llamas famiily.

And although the Chief doesn't want to comment of a "personnel matter", eventually we'll learn the officers punishment.

The Topeka police chief the other day said the four off-duty officers involved in the St. Patrick's shooting won't be fired. However, they may be disciplined.
I thought at least one of the officers would be unemployed at the end of this mess. And I have a suspicion the chief would have liked to have fired one or more of them. However, I think Chief Ron Miller looked at the city's human resources rules and the FOP contract and realized it was a fight he couldn't win. That is just speculation on my part.

Any thoughts, Forumeers?

It's all political BULLSHIT Brockert80.

Of course the 4 officers should be fired, they had no business being at the Llamas home.

I know some disagree, but these officers used 'poor judgement' at the very least. Giving power, authority and a loaded to gun to officers who have demonstrated such poor judgement in the past will only lead to a tragic future.

Chief Miller is a politician, not a cop. He's likely to blame the union contract or personnel policies for failing to do his job and what the public expects and demands. So much for 'professional standards' at the TPD.

I don't have much sympathy for drunk cops who take the law into their own hands and moonlight afterhours.

This all has turned into more of a political circus than even I expected.
I do disagree that all four deserved to be fired, but we've talked about that before.
I just don't get what is taking so long to do what he is going to do. The decision was already made long ago (IMO) as to what would come down the pike.

You are right Greggzee... it's taken far to long to 'settle' this.

Politics are at the center of this circus.

And two wrongs.... don't make a right.
